Impact

Academic research has led to amazing examples of innovation and spin-out companies. Cynapse has supported UK universities in their industry engagement and commercialisation.

Universities typically have research and innovation services that support academics in their commercial ventures. However, often these departments are overstretched or under resourced. In one such example, Cynapse has been working with a Russell Group university in their research commercialisation.

Social isolation is major topic for specific communities and leads to mental health and physical wellbeing problems. The research academics had developed an online tool that had been proven in their research to improve wellbeing and have beneficial impact on diseases such as diabetes. As a research tool, it had been adopted for various projects for data collection. However, there was commercial and societal potential for it to be commercialised and used by a variety of public sector and commercial organisations to improve community wellbeing. Cynapse worked with the researchers becoming an integral part of the team.

  • Commercial management and partnerships

Under Cynapse, the research has transitioned into a commercial product that is revenue generating with appropriate IP protection. We have been instrumental in its deployment in the UK, Australia and Canada with additional partnerships established with local public sector organisations. The online tool and intervention has been responsible for reducing loneliness and improving wellbeing in isolated individuals or those suffering from long term conditions.
